I was so thrilled to locate these Mimi the Sardine lunch bags this year. I had such a struggle finding a safer alternative to the lunch boxes. So many in recent years have been coming up with positive tests for lead, PVC and other nasties.

I ordered two, both in the pink mouse print, for my children. And one of my closest friends ordered one in the blue flora print for her daughter. I’d be hard-pressed to choose a favorite. Both prints are bold, bright, fun and look ‘grown up’ but not at all ‘stuffy’. The flower print is definitely one I would carry myself.

The bags are quite large. They look like a big purse for my kids, two and four. They were immediately thrilled to receive them and promptly began playing ‘school’ and packing up the wooden food from their kitchen to take as school lunch. The zipper closure is easy, even for my two year old, to open and close.

The inner compartment is generous and could easily accomodate a standard lunch box thermos or Sigg-type water bottle, alongside ample containers or baggies of goodies, napkins, etc. The material is pretty heavy duty, soft, yet slightly rigid. It’s made from organic cotton with an acrylic coating to make it more waterproof in case of leaks. The printed material is manufactured in Europe and adheres to Oeko-Tex 100 standards which test for over 100 harmful and suspect chemicals including lead, cadmium, formaldehyde and many many others. The bags themselves are sewn in California. Hands down, these facts are what please me most!

Bottom line, these are bags you can feel good about storing your child’s edibles in. They’re aethetically pleasing, they’ve got great kid appeal, and my initial impression is that they would be sturdy and durable and last through some kid abuse.

It’s also worth noting that there are a couple of companies carrying last year’s design – like the pink mouse design – and that if the price is deterrent you may be able to find the old patterns at a fraction of the cost of the new ones like the blue flora, pictured here. Either way, I think these bags are a great investment. I can see getting many years of use from them and using them for versatile tasks. I’m so grateful that fantastic companies like this exist and allow consumers a safer, more ecological choice for the everyday products we bring into our homes and lives!

I bought this lunch bag for my girlfriend. She really likes it! It’s made by a company that mostly aims their products toward kids, but this lunch bag is easily large enough for an adult meal. The fact that it’s washable and made of organic fabric are both big pluses, and the bright colored flowers make for a fun, whimsical bag.

My son (2 1/2) was so excited when he received his new lunch bag! He actually picked out the pattern he wanted (the Propeller) and when it arrived he wanted his lunch transferred immediately into the new bag! It’s small enough that he can put it on his arm and carry it in to the classroom and he LOVES doing it. The first day he got it he had to show all his teachers his “new bag”. Very cute. It’s just the perfect size and zips at the top to keep everything in. I love it and will probably buy another one. Oh….AND it’s organic! +++

This is a wonderful lunchbag for everyday. Sure to please kindergartners, high-schoolers, and professional adults alike, this great bag is made from organic cotton, coated with a water resistant coating. I didn’t buy my off of amazon, but i love it. I got the Blue Flora color. Its the perfect size to fit my Lunchbot, a few metal prep bowls, and an apple, or pear. (you could probably fit in even more too.) the zipper’s good quality, like the overall lunchbag.

Just for the record i’m a 16 year-old environmentally conscious girl and this lunch container’s perfect for me! Can’t wait to use it.
